Liam and Fabian were paid a total of $2990 for a job they did. Fabian was paid $1370 less than Liam.

1. How much was Fabian paid for the job?
2. Liam and Fabian were paid based on the number of days they worked. Liam worked 2 times as many days as Fabian. Liam was paid $20 more than Fabian per day. How many days did Liam work?

Amount that Fabian was paid = 1 u
Amount that Liam was paid = 1 u + 1370

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1370
= 2 u + 1370

2 u + 1370 = 2990
2 u = 2990 - 1370
2 u = 1620

1 u = 1620 ÷ 2 = 810

Amount that Fabian was paid
= 1 u
= $810

(b)
Amount that Liam was paid
= 1 u + 1370
= 810 + 1370
= $2180

Liam worked 2 times as many days as Fabian.

2 sets of Liam's salary = $2180

1 set of Liam's salary
= 2180 ÷ 2
= $1090

1 set of Fabian's salary = $810

Difference between each set of Liam's and Fabian's salaries
= 1090 - 810
= $280

Number of days in 1 set
= 280 ÷ 20
= 14

Number of days that Liam worked
= 2 x 14
= 28
