Simon and Ben were paid a total of $3560 for a job they did. Simon was paid $1900 more than Ben.

1. How much was Ben paid for the job?
2. Simon and Ben were paid based on the number of days they worked. Simon worked 3 times as many days as Ben. Ben was paid $5 less than Simon per day. How many days did Simon work?

Amount that Ben was paid = 1 u
Amount that Simon was paid = 1 u + 1900

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1900
= 2 u + 1900

2 u + 1900 = 3560
2 u = 3560 - 1900
2 u = 1660

1 u = 1660 ÷ 2 = 830

Amount that Ben was paid
= 1 u
= $830

(b)
Amount that Simon was paid
= 1 u + 1900
= 830 + 1900
= $2730

Simon worked 3 times as many days as Ben.

3 sets of Simon's salary = $2730

1 set of Simon's salary
= 2730 ÷ 3
= $910

1 set of Ben's salary = $830

Difference between each set of Simon's and Ben's salaries
= 910 - 830
= $80

Number of days in 1 set
= 80 ÷ 5
= 16

Number of days that Simon worked
= 3 x 16
= 48
