Tommy and Jeremy were paid a total of $1670 for a job they did. Tommy was paid $1380 more than Jeremy.

1. How much was Jeremy paid for the job?
2. Tommy and Jeremy were paid based on the number of days they worked. Tommy worked 5 times as many days as Jeremy. Jeremy was paid $8 less than Tommy per day. How many days did Tommy work?

Amount that Jeremy was paid = 1 u
Amount that Tommy was paid = 1 u + 1380

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1380
= 2 u + 1380

2 u + 1380 = 1670
2 u = 1670 - 1380
2 u = 290

1 u = 290 ÷ 2 = 145

Amount that Jeremy was paid
= 1 u
= $145

(b)
Amount that Tommy was paid
= 1 u + 1380
= 145 + 1380
= $1525

Tommy worked 5 times as many days as Jeremy.

5 sets of Tommy's salary = $1525

1 set of Tommy's salary
= 1525 ÷ 5
= $305

1 set of Jeremy's salary = $145

Difference between each set of Tommy's and Jeremy's salaries
= 305 - 145
= $160

Number of days in 1 set
= 160 ÷ 8
= 20

Number of days that Tommy worked
= 5 x 20
= 100
