Brandon and Pierre were paid a total of $4450 for a job they did. Brandon was paid $1590 more than Pierre.

1. How much was Pierre paid for the job?
2. Brandon and Pierre were paid based on the number of days they worked. Brandon worked 2 times as many days as Pierre. Pierre was paid $10 less than Brandon per day. How many days did Brandon work?

Amount that Pierre was paid = 1 u
Amount that Brandon was paid = 1 u + 1590

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1590
= 2 u + 1590

2 u + 1590 = 4450
2 u = 4450 - 1590
2 u = 2860

1 u = 2860 ÷ 2 = 1430

Amount that Pierre was paid
= 1 u
= $1430

(b)
Amount that Brandon was paid
= 1 u + 1590
= 1430 + 1590
= $3020

Brandon worked 2 times as many days as Pierre.

2 sets of Brandon's salary = $3020

1 set of Brandon's salary
= 3020 ÷ 2
= $1510

1 set of Pierre's salary = $1430

Difference between each set of Brandon's and Pierre's salaries
= 1510 - 1430
= $80

Number of days in 1 set
= 80 ÷ 10
= 8

Number of days that Brandon worked
= 2 x 8
= 16
