Asher and Tommy were paid a total of $1890 for a job they did. Asher was paid $1560 more than Tommy.

1. How much was Tommy paid for the job?
2. Asher and Tommy were paid based on the number of days they worked. Asher worked 5 times as many days as Tommy. Tommy was paid $12 less than Asher per day. How many days did Asher work?

Amount that Tommy was paid = 1 u
Amount that Asher was paid = 1 u + 1560

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1560
= 2 u + 1560

2 u + 1560 = 1890
2 u = 1890 - 1560
2 u = 330

1 u = 330 ÷ 2 = 165

Amount that Tommy was paid
= 1 u
= $165

(b)
Amount that Asher was paid
= 1 u + 1560
= 165 + 1560
= $1725

Asher worked 5 times as many days as Tommy.

5 sets of Asher's salary = $1725

1 set of Asher's salary
= 1725 ÷ 5
= $345

1 set of Tommy's salary = $165

Difference between each set of Asher's and Tommy's salaries
= 345 - 165
= $180

Number of days in 1 set
= 180 ÷ 12
= 15

Number of days that Asher worked
= 5 x 15
= 75
