Michael and Zane were paid a total of $2180 for a job they did. Zane was paid $1560 less than Michael.

1. How much was Zane paid for the job?
2. Michael and Zane were paid based on the number of days they worked. Michael worked 5 times as many days as Zane. Michael was paid $4 more than Zane per day. How many days did Michael work?

Amount that Zane was paid = 1 u
Amount that Michael was paid = 1 u + 1560

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1560
= 2 u + 1560

2 u + 1560 = 2180
2 u = 2180 - 1560
2 u = 620

1 u = 620 ÷ 2 = 310

Amount that Zane was paid
= 1 u
= $310

(b)
Amount that Michael was paid
= 1 u + 1560
= 310 + 1560
= $1870

Michael worked 5 times as many days as Zane.

5 sets of Michael's salary = $1870

1 set of Michael's salary
= 1870 ÷ 5
= $374

1 set of Zane's salary = $310

Difference between each set of Michael's and Zane's salaries
= 374 - 310
= $64

Number of days in 1 set
= 64 ÷ 4
= 16

Number of days that Michael worked
= 5 x 16
= 80
