Mr Leow used ⁴₇ of his money to buy 12 apples and 9 pomegranates. The cost of 4 apples was the same as that of 2 pomegranates. What was the most number of pomegranates that Mr Leow could buy with the money he had left?

Let the cost of 1 apple be 1 A.
Let the cost of 1 pomegranate be 1 P.

4 A = 2 P _(x3)
12 A = 6 P

Since Mr Leow wants to buy pomegranates with the money he had left, 12 apples will be substituted as 6 pomegranates.

⁴₇ of his money
= 12 A + 9 P
= 6 P + 9 P
= 15 P

⁴₇ of his money → 15 P
¹₇ of his money → ¹⁵₄ P
³₇ of his money → 3 x ¹⁵₄ P = 11¹₄ P

Maximum number of pomegranates he could buy with the money that he had left = 11
