PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1955 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 267 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of DE.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 51 ÷ 3
= 17 m
Length of DE
= (267 - 51 - 51 - 43 - 43) ÷ 2
= 79 ÷ 2
= 39.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 43 x 17
= 731 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 39.5 x 17
= 671.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1955 - 731 - 671.5
= 552.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 552.5 ÷ 17
= 32.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 267 - (2 x 32.5)
= 267 - 65
= 202 m
Answer(s): (a) 39.5 m
2; (b) 202 m
