PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1650 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 249 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of VW.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 45 ÷ 3
= 15 m
Length of VW
= (249 - 45 - 45 - 42 - 42) ÷ 2
= 75 ÷ 2
= 37.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest portion
= 42 x 15
= 630 m
2
Area of the middle portion
= 37.5 x 15
= 562.5 m
2 Area of the smallest portion
= 1650 - 630 - 562.5
= 457.5 m
2 Length of the smallest portion
= 457.5 ÷ 15
= 30.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 249 - (2 x 30.5)
= 249 - 61
= 188 m
Answer(s): (a) 37.5 m
2; (b) 188 m
