PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 936 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 183 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of XY.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 36 ÷ 3
= 12 m
Length of XY
= (183 - 36 - 36 - 30 - 30) ÷ 2
= 51 ÷ 2
= 25.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 30 x 12
= 360 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 25.5 x 12
= 306 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 936 - 360 - 306
= 270 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 270 ÷ 12
= 22.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 183 - (2 x 22.5)
= 183 - 45
= 138 m
Answer(s): (a) 25.5 m
2; (b) 138 m
