PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1053 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 197 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of HJ.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 39 ÷ 3
= 13 m
Length of HJ
= (197 - 39 - 39 - 31 - 31) ÷ 2
= 57 ÷ 2
= 28.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 31 x 13
= 403 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 28.5 x 13
= 370.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1053 - 403 - 370.5
= 279.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 279.5 ÷ 13
= 21.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 197 - (2 x 21.5)
= 197 - 43
= 154 m
Answer(s): (a) 28.5 m
2; (b) 154 m
