PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1246 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 211 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of AB.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 42 ÷ 3
= 14 m
Length of AB
= (211 - 42 - 42 - 34 - 34) ÷ 2
= 59 ÷ 2
= 29.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 34 x 14
= 476 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 29.5 x 14
= 413 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1246 - 476 - 413
= 357 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 357 ÷ 14
= 25.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 211 - (2 x 25.5)
= 211 - 51
= 160 m
Answer(s): (a) 29.5 m
2; (b) 160 m
