PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2340 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 289 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of BC.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 54 ÷ 3
= 18 m
Length of BC
= (289 - 54 - 54 - 47 - 47) ÷ 2
= 87 ÷ 2
= 43.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 47 x 18
= 846 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 43.5 x 18
= 783 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 2340 - 846 - 783
= 711 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 711 ÷ 18
= 39.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 289 - (2 x 39.5)
= 289 - 79
= 210 m
Answer(s): (a) 43.5 m
2; (b) 210 m
