PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 972 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 187 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of ST.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 36 ÷ 3
= 12 m
Length of ST
= (187 - 36 - 36 - 31 - 31) ÷ 2
= 53 ÷ 2
= 26.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 31 x 12
= 372 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 26.5 x 12
= 318 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 972 - 372 - 318
= 282 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 282 ÷ 12
= 23.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 187 - (2 x 23.5)
= 187 - 47
= 140 m
Answer(s): (a) 26.5 m
2; (b) 140 m
