PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2622 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 309 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of RS.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 57 ÷ 3
= 19 m
Length of RS
= (309 - 57 - 57 - 51 - 51) ÷ 2
= 93 ÷ 2
= 46.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 51 x 19
= 969 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 46.5 x 19
= 883.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 2622 - 969 - 883.5
= 769.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 769.5 ÷ 19
= 40.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 309 - (2 x 40.5)
= 309 - 81
= 228 m
Answer(s): (a) 46.5 m
2; (b) 228 m
