PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2860 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 323 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of PQ.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 60 ÷ 3
= 20 m
Length of PQ
= (323 - 60 - 60 - 53 - 53) ÷ 2
= 97 ÷ 2
= 48.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 53 x 20
= 1060 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 48.5 x 20
= 970 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 2860 - 1060 - 970
= 830 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 830 ÷ 20
= 41.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 323 - (2 x 41.5)
= 323 - 83
= 240 m
Answer(s): (a) 48.5 m
2; (b) 240 m
