PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1498 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 233 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of CD.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 42 ÷ 3
= 14 m
Length of CD
= (233 - 42 - 42 - 39 - 39) ÷ 2
= 71 ÷ 2
= 35.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 39 x 14
= 546 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 35.5 x 14
= 497 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1498 - 546 - 497
= 455 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 455 ÷ 14
= 32.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 233 - (2 x 32.5)
= 233 - 65
= 168 m
Answer(s): (a) 35.5 m
2; (b) 168 m
