PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1635 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 247 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of QR.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 45 ÷ 3
= 15 m
Length of QR
= (247 - 45 - 45 - 41 - 41) ÷ 2
= 75 ÷ 2
= 37.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 41 x 15
= 615 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 37.5 x 15
= 562.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1635 - 615 - 562.5
= 457.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 457.5 ÷ 15
= 30.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 247 - (2 x 30.5)
= 247 - 61
= 186 m
Answer(s): (a) 37.5 m
2; (b) 186 m
