PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1302 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 219 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of NP.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 42 ÷ 3
= 14 m
Length of NP
= (219 - 42 - 42 - 36 - 36) ÷ 2
= 63 ÷ 2
= 31.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 36 x 14
= 504 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 31.5 x 14
= 441 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1302 - 504 - 441
= 357 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 357 ÷ 14
= 25.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 219 - (2 x 25.5)
= 219 - 51
= 168 m
Answer(s): (a) 31.5 m
2; (b) 168 m
