PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2227 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 283 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of UV.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 51 ÷ 3
= 17 m
Length of UV
= (283 - 51 - 51 - 47 - 47) ÷ 2
= 87 ÷ 2
= 43.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest portion
= 47 x 17
= 799 m
2
Area of the middle portion
= 43.5 x 17
= 739.5 m
2 Area of the smallest portion
= 2227 - 799 - 739.5
= 688.5 m
2 Length of the smallest portion
= 688.5 ÷ 17
= 40.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 283 - (2 x 40.5)
= 283 - 81
= 202 m
Answer(s): (a) 43.5 m
2; (b) 202 m
