PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1936 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 267 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of RS.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 48 ÷ 3
= 16 m
Length of RS
= (267 - 48 - 48 - 44 - 44) ÷ 2
= 83 ÷ 2
= 41.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 44 x 16
= 704 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 41.5 x 16
= 664 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1936 - 704 - 664
= 568 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 568 ÷ 16
= 35.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 267 - (2 x 35.5)
= 267 - 71
= 196 m
Answer(s): (a) 41.5 m
2; (b) 196 m
