PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1080 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 201 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of WX.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 36 ÷ 3
= 12 m
Length of WX
= (201 - 36 - 36 - 33 - 33) ÷ 2
= 63 ÷ 2
= 31.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 33 x 12
= 396 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 31.5 x 12
= 378 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1080 - 396 - 378
= 306 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 306 ÷ 12
= 25.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 201 - (2 x 25.5)
= 201 - 51
= 150 m
Answer(s): (a) 31.5 m
2; (b) 150 m
