PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2755 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 315 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of YZ.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 57 ÷ 3
= 19 m
Length of YZ
= (315 - 57 - 57 - 51 - 51) ÷ 2
= 99 ÷ 2
= 49.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 51 x 19
= 969 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 49.5 x 19
= 940.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 2755 - 969 - 940.5
= 845.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 845.5 ÷ 19
= 44.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 315 - (2 x 44.5)
= 315 - 89
= 226 m
Answer(s): (a) 49.5 m
2; (b) 226 m
