PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2831 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 323 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of XY.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 57 ÷ 3
= 19 m
Length of XY
= (323 - 57 - 57 - 54 - 54) ÷ 2
= 101 ÷ 2
= 50.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 54 x 19
= 1026 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 50.5 x 19
= 959.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 2831 - 1026 - 959.5
= 845.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 845.5 ÷ 19
= 44.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 323 - (2 x 44.5)
= 323 - 89
= 234 m
Answer(s): (a) 50.5 m
2; (b) 234 m
