PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2176 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 285 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of QR.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 51 ÷ 3
= 17 m
Length of QR
= (285 - 51 - 51 - 48 - 48) ÷ 2
= 87 ÷ 2
= 43.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 48 x 17
= 816 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 43.5 x 17
= 739.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 2176 - 816 - 739.5
= 620.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 620.5 ÷ 17
= 36.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 285 - (2 x 36.5)
= 285 - 73
= 212 m
Answer(s): (a) 43.5 m
2; (b) 212 m
