PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1984 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 271 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of PQ.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 48 ÷ 3
= 16 m
Length of PQ
= (271 - 48 - 48 - 45 - 45) ÷ 2
= 85 ÷ 2
= 42.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 45 x 16
= 720 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 42.5 x 16
= 680 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1984 - 720 - 680
= 584 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 584 ÷ 16
= 36.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 271 - (2 x 36.5)
= 271 - 73
= 198 m
Answer(s): (a) 42.5 m
2; (b) 198 m
