PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 3060 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 335 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of UV.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 60 ÷ 3
= 20 m
Length of UV
= (335 - 60 - 60 - 56 - 56) ÷ 2
= 103 ÷ 2
= 51.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 56 x 20
= 1120 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 51.5 x 20
= 1030 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 3060 - 1120 - 1030
= 910 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 910 ÷ 20
= 45.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 335 - (2 x 45.5)
= 335 - 91
= 244 m
Answer(s): (a) 51.5 m
2; (b) 244 m
