PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2340 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 291 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of RS.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 54 ÷ 3
= 18 m
Length of RS
= (291 - 54 - 54 - 47 - 47) ÷ 2
= 89 ÷ 2
= 44.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 47 x 18
= 846 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 44.5 x 18
= 801 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 2340 - 846 - 801
= 693 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 693 ÷ 18
= 38.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 291 - (2 x 38.5)
= 291 - 77
= 214 m
Answer(s): (a) 44.5 m
2; (b) 214 m
