PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1428 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 227 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of TU.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 42 ÷ 3
= 14 m
Length of TU
= (227 - 42 - 42 - 38 - 38) ÷ 2
= 67 ÷ 2
= 33.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 38 x 14
= 532 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 33.5 x 14
= 469 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1428 - 532 - 469
= 427 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 427 ÷ 14
= 30.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 227 - (2 x 30.5)
= 227 - 61
= 166 m
Answer(s): (a) 33.5 m
2; (b) 166 m
