PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1248 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 217 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of VW.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 39 ÷ 3
= 13 m
Length of VW
= (217 - 39 - 39 - 36 - 36) ÷ 2
= 67 ÷ 2
= 33.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 36 x 13
= 468 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 33.5 x 13
= 435.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1248 - 468 - 435.5
= 344.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 344.5 ÷ 13
= 26.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 217 - (2 x 26.5)
= 217 - 53
= 164 m
Answer(s): (a) 33.5 m
2; (b) 164 m
