PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2592 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 307 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of AB.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 54 ÷ 3
= 18 m
Length of AB
= (307 - 54 - 54 - 51 - 51) ÷ 2
= 97 ÷ 2
= 48.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 51 x 18
= 918 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 48.5 x 18
= 873 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 2592 - 918 - 873
= 801 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 801 ÷ 18
= 44.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 307 - (2 x 44.5)
= 307 - 89
= 218 m
Answer(s): (a) 48.5 m
2; (b) 218 m
