PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2430 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 297 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of XY.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 54 ÷ 3
= 18 m
Length of XY
= (297 - 54 - 54 - 48 - 48) ÷ 2
= 93 ÷ 2
= 46.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 48 x 18
= 864 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 46.5 x 18
= 837 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 2430 - 864 - 837
= 729 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 729 ÷ 18
= 40.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 297 - (2 x 40.5)
= 297 - 81
= 216 m
Answer(s): (a) 46.5 m
2; (b) 216 m
