PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1590 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 239 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of XY.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 45 ÷ 3
= 15 m
Length of XY
= (239 - 45 - 45 - 38 - 38) ÷ 2
= 73 ÷ 2
= 36.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 38 x 15
= 570 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 36.5 x 15
= 547.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1590 - 570 - 547.5
= 472.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 472.5 ÷ 15
= 31.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 239 - (2 x 31.5)
= 239 - 63
= 176 m
Answer(s): (a) 36.5 m
2; (b) 176 m
