PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2793 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 317 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of XY.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 57 ÷ 3
= 19 m
Length of XY
= (317 - 57 - 57 - 52 - 52) ÷ 2
= 99 ÷ 2
= 49.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 52 x 19
= 988 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 49.5 x 19
= 940.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 2793 - 988 - 940.5
= 864.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 864.5 ÷ 19
= 45.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 317 - (2 x 45.5)
= 317 - 91
= 226 m
Answer(s): (a) 49.5 m
2; (b) 226 m
