PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1770 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 255 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of WX.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 45 ÷ 3
= 15 m
Length of WX
= (255 - 45 - 45 - 42 - 42) ÷ 2
= 81 ÷ 2
= 40.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 42 x 15
= 630 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 40.5 x 15
= 607.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1770 - 630 - 607.5
= 532.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 532.5 ÷ 15
= 35.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 255 - (2 x 35.5)
= 255 - 71
= 184 m
Answer(s): (a) 40.5 m
2; (b) 184 m
