PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 3120 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 333 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of RS.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 60 ÷ 3
= 20 m
Length of RS
= (333 - 60 - 60 - 54 - 54) ÷ 2
= 105 ÷ 2
= 52.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 54 x 20
= 1080 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 52.5 x 20
= 1050 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 3120 - 1080 - 1050
= 990 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 990 ÷ 20
= 49.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 333 - (2 x 49.5)
= 333 - 99
= 234 m
Answer(s): (a) 52.5 m
2; (b) 234 m
