PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1261 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 215 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of EF.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 39 ÷ 3
= 13 m
Length of EF
= (215 - 39 - 39 - 35 - 35) ÷ 2
= 67 ÷ 2
= 33.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest portion
= 35 x 13
= 455 m
2
Area of the middle portion
= 33.5 x 13
= 435.5 m
2 Area of the smallest portion
= 1261 - 455 - 435.5
= 370.5 m
2 Length of the smallest portion
= 370.5 ÷ 13
= 28.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 215 - (2 x 28.5)
= 215 - 57
= 158 m
Answer(s): (a) 33.5 m
2; (b) 158 m
