PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 3180 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 341 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of UV.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 60 ÷ 3
= 20 m
Length of UV
= (341 - 60 - 60 - 56 - 56) ÷ 2
= 109 ÷ 2
= 54.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 56 x 20
= 1120 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 54.5 x 20
= 1090 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 3180 - 1120 - 1090
= 970 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 970 ÷ 20
= 48.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 341 - (2 x 48.5)
= 341 - 97
= 244 m
Answer(s): (a) 54.5 m
2; (b) 244 m
