PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1358 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 221 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of FG.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 42 ÷ 3
= 14 m
Length of FG
= (221 - 42 - 42 - 36 - 36) ÷ 2
= 65 ÷ 2
= 32.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 36 x 14
= 504 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 32.5 x 14
= 455 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1358 - 504 - 455
= 399 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 399 ÷ 14
= 28.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 221 - (2 x 28.5)
= 221 - 57
= 164 m
Answer(s): (a) 32.5 m
2; (b) 164 m
