PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1680 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 249 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of LM.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 45 ÷ 3
= 15 m
Length of LM
= (249 - 45 - 45 - 41 - 41) ÷ 2
= 77 ÷ 2
= 38.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 41 x 15
= 615 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 38.5 x 15
= 577.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1680 - 615 - 577.5
= 487.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 487.5 ÷ 15
= 32.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 249 - (2 x 32.5)
= 249 - 65
= 184 m
Answer(s): (a) 38.5 m
2; (b) 184 m
