PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1442 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 229 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of EF.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 42 ÷ 3
= 14 m
Length of EF
= (229 - 42 - 42 - 37 - 37) ÷ 2
= 71 ÷ 2
= 35.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 37 x 14
= 518 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 35.5 x 14
= 497 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1442 - 518 - 497
= 427 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 427 ÷ 14
= 30.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 229 - (2 x 30.5)
= 229 - 61
= 168 m
Answer(s): (a) 35.5 m
2; (b) 168 m
