PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1590 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 241 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of WX.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 45 ÷ 3
= 15 m
Length of WX
= (241 - 45 - 45 - 39 - 39) ÷ 2
= 73 ÷ 2
= 36.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 39 x 15
= 585 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 36.5 x 15
= 547.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1590 - 585 - 547.5
= 457.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 457.5 ÷ 15
= 30.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 241 - (2 x 30.5)
= 241 - 61
= 180 m
Answer(s): (a) 36.5 m
2; (b) 180 m
