PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2538 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 303 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of WX.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 54 ÷ 3
= 18 m
Length of WX
= (303 - 54 - 54 - 50 - 50) ÷ 2
= 95 ÷ 2
= 47.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 50 x 18
= 900 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 47.5 x 18
= 855 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 2538 - 900 - 855
= 783 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 783 ÷ 18
= 43.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 303 - (2 x 43.5)
= 303 - 87
= 216 m
Answer(s): (a) 47.5 m
2; (b) 216 m
