PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1044 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 197 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of PQ.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 36 ÷ 3
= 12 m
Length of PQ
= (197 - 36 - 36 - 33 - 33) ÷ 2
= 59 ÷ 2
= 29.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 33 x 12
= 396 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 29.5 x 12
= 354 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1044 - 396 - 354
= 294 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 294 ÷ 12
= 24.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 197 - (2 x 24.5)
= 197 - 49
= 148 m
Answer(s): (a) 29.5 m
2; (b) 148 m
