PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2125 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 281 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of FG.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 51 ÷ 3
= 17 m
Length of FG
= (281 - 51 - 51 - 47 - 47) ÷ 2
= 85 ÷ 2
= 42.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 47 x 17
= 799 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 42.5 x 17
= 722.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 2125 - 799 - 722.5
= 603.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 603.5 ÷ 17
= 35.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 281 - (2 x 35.5)
= 281 - 71
= 210 m
Answer(s): (a) 42.5 m
2; (b) 210 m
