PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1442 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 231 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of LM.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 42 ÷ 3
= 14 m
Length of LM
= (231 - 42 - 42 - 39 - 39) ÷ 2
= 69 ÷ 2
= 34.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 39 x 14
= 546 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 34.5 x 14
= 483 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1442 - 546 - 483
= 413 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 413 ÷ 14
= 29.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 231 - (2 x 29.5)
= 231 - 59
= 172 m
Answer(s): (a) 34.5 m
2; (b) 172 m
