PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2142 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 279 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of NP.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 51 ÷ 3
= 17 m
Length of NP
= (279 - 51 - 51 - 46 - 46) ÷ 2
= 85 ÷ 2
= 42.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest portion
= 46 x 17
= 782 m
2
Area of the middle portion
= 42.5 x 17
= 722.5 m
2 Area of the smallest portion
= 2142 - 782 - 722.5
= 637.5 m
2 Length of the smallest portion
= 637.5 ÷ 17
= 37.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 279 - (2 x 37.5)
= 279 - 75
= 204 m
Answer(s): (a) 42.5 m
2; (b) 204 m
