PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2394 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 295 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of JK.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 54 ÷ 3
= 18 m
Length of JK
= (295 - 54 - 54 - 48 - 48) ÷ 2
= 91 ÷ 2
= 45.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 48 x 18
= 864 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 45.5 x 18
= 819 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 2394 - 864 - 819
= 711 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 711 ÷ 18
= 39.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 295 - (2 x 39.5)
= 295 - 79
= 216 m
Answer(s): (a) 45.5 m
2; (b) 216 m
