PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 3280 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 345 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of JK.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 60 ÷ 3
= 20 m
Length of JK
= (345 - 60 - 60 - 57 - 57) ÷ 2
= 111 ÷ 2
= 55.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 57 x 20
= 1140 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 55.5 x 20
= 1110 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 3280 - 1140 - 1110
= 1030 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 1030 ÷ 20
= 51.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 345 - (2 x 51.5)
= 345 - 103
= 242 m
Answer(s): (a) 55.5 m
2; (b) 242 m
