PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2940 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 327 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of ST.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 60 ÷ 3
= 20 m
Length of ST
= (327 - 60 - 60 - 53 - 53) ÷ 2
= 101 ÷ 2
= 50.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 53 x 20
= 1060 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 50.5 x 20
= 1010 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 2940 - 1060 - 1010
= 870 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 870 ÷ 20
= 43.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 327 - (2 x 43.5)
= 327 - 87
= 240 m
Answer(s): (a) 50.5 m
2; (b) 240 m
